About Cialis
This drug is sold both under the brand name of Cialis and under the generic name of Tadalafil. It is mainly used to treat impotence arising from erectile dysfunction in men and, because it has an effect over a period of thirty-six hours, it has popularly become known as the "weekend pill". This persistent effect also means that it cannot be taken more than once a day although the European Commission has now given its approval to the use of low-doses, 2.5 mg and 5 mg, once a day for the on-going treatment of erectile dysfunction.
Cialis works by increasing the flow of blood to the penis, which allows men the ability to get an erection and reverses the dysfunction that some experience.
The basic research and development was carried out by the ICOS Corporation, a biotechnology company based in Washington, which later formed a joint venture with Eli Lilly and Company to market the drug globally. Alongside Viagra (Sildenafil) and Levitra (Vardenafil), Cialis has become a major brand with regulatory approval in most world markets including Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in the USA. The drug is also undergoing testing for use in the treatment of WHO Group 1 Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). We note that Sildenafil under the brand name Revatio already has approval in some countries as a therapy for PAH.
