Before taking Cialis

Cialis is a prescription medicine and, as with all medications, you should always consult your doctor before taking something new. Although your regular practitioner will have access to your medical records, you should always give up-to-date information about any additional products that you are taking. If you are seeing a doctor for the first time, give as much information as possible during the first consultation. Many generic drugs are now available over-the-counter or from online pharmacies without formal prescription. You need to make sure that there will not be any adverse interaction between the medications if you add Cialis to the mix. Each pack of Cialis contains notes explaining the more common medications to avoid. In particular, even though you may have performance anxiety and want to ensure that you do not fail to deliver, do not be tempted to take Cialis at the same time as Viagra or Levitra.

The same need to disclose up-to-date information also applies to any herbal preparations or dietary supplements that you may be taking. Always remember to report any allergies that you have to medicines, foods or other substances. If you are older, you should also have a full physical check-up to ensure that you will not endanger your health by suddenly increasing your existing level of sexual activity. The older you are, the greater the need to seek advice before taking Cialis. Finally, you should report any specific problems or abnormalities that may have affected your sexual performance. Perhaps your penis or testicles have slightly changed shape or you have experienced priapism — an unnaturally prolonged erection. Such events should be investigated before you begin taking a medication that is designed to produce a fuller erection.

Finally, let us dispose of a number of myths affecting Cialis and the other drugs for the treatment of sexual problems. None of these drugs will prevent you from catching one of the sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). You are at risk of HIV infection or one of the other sometimes less serious STDs if you do not use a condom. The same applies to the risk of you transmitting any disease that you may have. If you are going to engage in sexual intercourse knowing that you are a carrier of an STD, the only responsible way of doing so is to wear a condom. Finally, because Cialis does not prevent the emission of sperm, you always have the chance of becoming a father unless you are wearing a condom or your partner is taking independent  precautions.

When you first start taking Cialis, you should monitor how your body reacts. Because some of the side-effects include dizziness and blurred vision, you should not drive until you know that you will be safe. You should also remember that alcohol may increase the effectiveness of any drug. With Cialis, it is better not to drink alcohol at all, or if you cannot avoid it in a social context, drink only a little until you know how your body is likely to react. Sometimes these side-effects are more common during hot weather or if you lead a very active life including sports and games. You should therefore take care when you are just waking up and avoid standing up quickly to make sure that you are not dizzy and that your physical co-ordination is not affected.

You should not take Cialis at all if you have:

a history of liver or kidney problems and particularly if you are already having dialysis
recently had a stroke or heart attack — actually attempting or having sexual intercourse may be dangerous whether or not you have taken Cialis
one of the continuing medical conditions that may affect your cardiovascular system, i.e. the heart and the circulatory system that carries blood throughout the body. Thus, if you suffer from angina, cardiac arrhythmia, hyper or hypotension, particularly if you have difficulty during sexual intercourse, you should not take Cialis
problems with your blood whether they are relatively simple like anemia, or more serious such as leukemia
a history of certain eye problems — Cialis can affect your colour vision or enhance a tendency to blurred vision so if you have an exiting problem with your sight, you are more likely to suffer these side-effects
already taken prescription medication or recreational drugs that contain nitrates because dizziness or fainting is more likely occur; or
an allergic reaction to it — no matter how successful it may be in allowing you to resume sexual activity, it may be dangerous for you to continue taking Cialis if your body is reacting against it
