Why taking Cialis with alcohol is not acceptable
The general rule is that you should not mix alcohol with any prescription medication. One of the effects of alcohol can be to potentiate the effect of any drug you take. That means the alcohol may magnify or exaggerate the drug’s effect. This can be dangerous.
As it happens, both Cialis and alcohol act to dilate the blood vessels, i.e. both affect PDE5. In combination, the effect is to reduce your blood pressure, which may cause dizziness or vertigo, and a general loss of co-ordination.
The greater the consumption of alcohol, the more likely it is that hypotension will occur and reduce the flow of blood around the body. Despite the fact that your heart rate will increase slightly, this will interfere with the flow of blood into the penis and slow the onset of an erection or reduce its hardness. This loss of performance will occur even though you have taken Cialis. You are also more likely to get headaches.
Clinical trials have shown that alcohol does not potentiate either Viagra or Levitra in the same way.
